Marshall Plan
1) Also called the European Recovery Plan.
2) The Marshall Plan was part of the Containment Policy. The Truman administration
sought to contain or roll back communism whenever it was in the national
interest of the USA. This policy was the brainchild of George F. Kennan, an
American diplomat working out of the US embassy in Moscow.
3) This was a massive economic aid plan for Europe to help it recover from
the damage caused by WWII
4) The impact upon the Cold war:
o Helped Europe to recover economically would provide markets for
American goods, so benefiting American
industry.
A prosperous Europe would be better able to resist the spread of communism.
